Domaine de Labourdonnais castle

Formerly a sugar estate located in Mapou, Domaine de Labourdonnais is today a perfect illustration of the coexistence between modernity and tradition in Mauritius. It is now a living museum that welcomes many visitors invited to discover a magical place where history, flora, orchards, gastronomy and Mauritian know-how are at the forefront.

The castle, a beautiful colonial residence dating back to 1856, is a privileged witness to the rich past and lifestyle of the time. Open to visitors, its beautiful marquetry works, precious furniture and perfectly renovated typical architecture are waiting to be discovered.

The garden features large and beautiful alleyways and the old orchards contain about fifty varieties of century-old mango trees, spice trees and exotic fruit trees. You may also come across giant tortoises. An activity to do on foot or by mountain bike.

In its confectionery and distillery, the estate manufactures products from fruits picked in the orchards. Seize the opportunity to taste fruit juices, jams and fruit spreads as well as a large variety of rums at the end of your visit. These products are also available in the souvenir shop and restaurant located on the estate, just a few steps away from the castle.
